Who's involved
The Canoe Tokelau team in the UK is Damian Welch, Ian Douglas
and Talia Comez Yanez with design and technical support from Mark Tait
and Andrea Cook at atelier28 in The Netherlands.
Canoe Tokelau is supported by The Neville Shulman Challenge Award of
The Royal Geographical Society. Thank you Neville and RGS!
In Tokelau, we are reliant on the support and blessing of the Council
of Faipule, the 3 elected leaders of Tokelau, as well as the director
of their office, Mr Falani Aukuso, in Apia, Western Samoa. Fakafetai
lahi to Mikaele Maiava (pictured above with his son David) in Samoa and in Atafu, Filipo Iupati heads up our
communications effort through Atafu FM. Friends of the project in Atafu
include Stan and Latu Lopa.
From the wider Tokelau community in New Zealand, Australia, Hawai'i
and further from the atolls, we have received vocal support, much of
which has been at www.matagiTokelauporiruasharks.org.nz/forum
where the discussion on voyaging canoes has been ongoing for over a
year.
